2 men remanded for misappropriation of N52.6m

FCT High Court Maitama on Thursday remanded two men, Olamide Toluwani and Bamidele Olayemi, for fraudulent misappropriation of N52.6 million belonging to a travel agency.

The men were arraigned before Justice Olasumbo Goodluck on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation.

Goodluck ordered that they should be remanded in the prison custody after their lawyer, Mr Olufemi Olawuyi, failed to apply for their bail according to proper procedure.

The judge subsequently adjourned until Sept. 26 for commencement of trial.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr Samuel Mallum, told the court that Toluwani and Olayemi, between July and August, 2016 while in the employment of Sabre Travels Network Ltd. were entrusted with the pass word of Al Yakin Travels Ltd.

He said within that period they conspired and used computer platform of Sabre Travels Ltd. and fraudulently used the pass word of Al Yakin Travels Ltd. to sell flight tickets belonging to Al Yakin to the tune of N52. 67 million and could not account for it.

He alleged that the defendants fraudulently misappropriated the said N52, 677,167 being proceeds of tickets of Al Yakin Travels Ltd.

The prosecutor told the court that these offences contravened sections 97, 309 and 312 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.
