The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Bauchi state Chapter has directed it’s members to intensify their humanitarian activities in the health facilities across the state.
Vice Chairman of the association, Dr Hassan Shuaibu gave the directive in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Wednesday.
“Doctors in the Federal and Government hospitals should intensify their activities and take on more responsibilities to save lives and reduce the damage being caused as a result of the strike by health workers,” he said
According to him, the body of doctors (NMA and it’s affiliates) need to call emergency meetings to discuss strategies that would ensure provision of healthcare service in hospitals.
“As doctors who consider ourselves as leaders of the Health team, much is expected from us in times like this, to support the government, hospitals and Nigerians.
“This, we can fulfill by rising up to the occasion to prove our worth in service delivery,” he said.
Shuaibu stressed the need to support the heads of hospitals and encouraging them to take drastic action against any of their staff that denied people access to health infrastructure.
He also called for strategic media engagement to enlighten communities on the demands of health workers.
