Calcio Mercato cite Sky sources claiming Chelsea are making progress with Laurent Blanc
The Frenchman was not believed to be the first choice, but right now, he may be the remaining option
Chelsea are understood to still want to replace Antonio Conte and head into the 2018-19 campaign with a new head coach. The links were strong with Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, under Napoli contract but with no right to manage the team after a fantastic season. But once his release clause expired on May 31, the interest cooled down.
Laurent Blanc has always remained on the club's radar, but only as a back-up option to the vastly rumoured choices in Luis Enrique and Sarri himself. For now, the 52-year-old Frenchman looks like more than a viable candidate to replace Conte who has not spoken to mediaafter the team won the FA Cup with him.
Blanc has been out of job since 2016 when Unai Emery replaced him at Paris Saint-Germain. He won three consecutive league titles with French giants, but was dismissed for his inability to advance to later stages of the Champions League. His CV also has a league title with Bordeaux in 2008-09. He won the French cup the same year.
Another rumoured option for Chelsea is Fulham boss Sinisa Jokanovic, also a former player. The 49-year-old Serbian promoted Fulham to the Premier League and is waiting to know his board's plans for the season. In the meantime, Jokanovic has met with Chelsea representatives, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.
