National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has urged all tiers of government and institutions to comply with using .gov. ng domain to populate the internet with government’s presence as well as coordinate the hosting of government domains, especially with regard to the security of the domain.
Director General/Chief Executive Officer of NITDA, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the presentation of the reviewed .gov.ng and .mil. ng policy to stakeholders.
Pantami explained that .gov.ng domain is a national resource for the use of the government for the benefit of the Nigerians, noting that the domain would be available for all tiers of government from the federal to the local government areas, adding that it is “Nigeria’s internet identification card.”
While underscoring the benefits of the domain, he said the domain confers credibility on the users, adding that it is extremely difficult for fraudsters to access and use it to perpetrate fraud.
“It is not easy for fraudsters to use .gov.ng as the case may be. The process is not an easy one for them,” he explained.
“The domain is more authentic. If you use the generic top-level domain, anybody can use it. It is not attached to any country. Any fraudster can register it and begin to use it to perpetrate fraud.
