The need for families to make their contribution towards combating climate change has been emphasized as Nigerians join the rest of the world to mark the 2019 International Family Day.
In the same vein, governments and other social institutions have also been enjoined to embark on programs and policies that would make life more meaningful for families.
These views were expressed by some family rights activists in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.
The international day of the family is observed on the fifteenth of May annually. It is a day set aside by the United Nations general assembly to draw attention to the issues relating to poverty, preventable deaths and environmental threats as they affect family units across the world.
This year's celebration with the theme "family and climate action" focuses on the need to improve education, human and institutional capacity building, as well as on mitigating the impact of climate change.
A large percentage of the world's population face abject poverty, alongside other social problems including insecurity, political instability and environmental health challenges to address this, governments, many believe have a major role to play.
Family experts have also emphasized on the importance of bonding and decried increasing detachments of individual members in a fast-changing digital world.
