Onitsha Main Market Wins The Obiano Traders' Football Cup Competition

                                   
Onitsha Main Market traders have won the Governor Willie Obiano Traders' Cup Football Competition. A title they have won for the second time.

The grand finale kick off was performed by the State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke at Godwin Achebe Mini Stadium, Onitsha where they won Nnewi Motor Spare Parts by four goals to one.

According to Deputy Governor Okeke, sports is one of the ways to meaningfully engage the youth of the State, and at the same time disengage them from vices, pledging unrelentless commitment by the present government to advance sports in the State.

Dr Nkem Okeke appreciated traders from about sixty one markets in the State for their supportive role being accorded the Governor Willie Obiano-led administration, especially during the recently concluded election in the State, describing the win as a serious mandate to them to continue to deliver dividends of good governance.

In a speech, the Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Barrister Uju Nwogu who cited the benefits of sports to include among other things, identification and selection of budding talents, said that the various sports competitions have consistently impacted on the lives of the youth.

While stressing that through the instrumentality of the support of the present administration, teams from the State who competed in different sporting activities within and outside the State have come tops with medals to back it up, Commissioner Nwogu urged youths to remain focused and resolute in their support for the Governor and his team.

Earlier, the Chairman of Anambra Market Traders Association, AMATA, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, thanked the Governor for sponsoring the tournament which is the first of its kind in the the history of the State, pleading with State government to upgrade the prize money in subsequent competitions, and pledged total support to Governor Obiano's administration.

The match between the teams ended one draw at the end of ninety minutes of play.

Onitsha Main Market who are the defending Champions won four goals to one after the penalty shoot out and were presented with the cheque of one million naira.

Cheque, medals and cup presentation were highpoints on the event.
